Another New Face at Alfreton!
12 August 2009 09:37:00

Alfreton Town have begun the 2009/10 Blue Square North campaign in fine style and the Reds sit proudly on top of a very early league table after two games, albeit by goal difference.

Nicky Law's side have done everything asked of them as they have produced back to back 3-0 victories, firstly at Farsley Celtic on the opening day of the season, and again on Tuesday evening when they despatched Solihull Moors by the same scoreline in their first home outing of the campaign.

England `C` striker Liam Hearn has continued where he left off last season, scoring goals. Hit man Hearn has netted three times in the opening two games, notching the second goal at Farsley Celtic last Saturday and bagging a very good brace on Tuesday.

But it has been an all-round effort with the other goals last Saturday coming from new boys Richard Pell and Dominic Roma while Anton Brown added the third on Tuesday evening against Solihull.

Successive clean sheets, six goals and six points made it an extremely good week for manager Law who had strengthened his squad considerably on the eve of the season.

The Reds boss signed former Hucknall Town, Eastwood Town, Burton Albion, Accrington Stanley and Rotherham United winger Andy Todd, 30, following his release in the summer by the Millers.

And Law also added a second goalkeeper to his ranks with the highly rated Paddy Gamble, 20, moving to the Impact Arena. He had been on trial at both Notts County and Macclesfield Town after being released by Nottingham Forest earlier in the summer.

The Reds will be looking to continue their 100 per cent start to the campaign when they entertain Vauxhall Motors at the Impact Arena this Saturday.

Next Tuesday brings a first local derby of the season with Alfreton making the short journey to face last season's UniBond League Premier Division champions Eastwood Town at Coronation Park.

Meanwhile, left-sided midfield player Kris Bowler has joined UniBond League Premier Division side Worksop Town on a month's loan.

There is another new face at the Impact Arena this season following the club's launch of an official Alfreton Town Football Club mascot.

Jasper the pup, who is certainly not a pup at 6'6'', made his debut in Tuesday night's game against Solihull Moors and he will be a permanent fixture at Reds home games.

The club are keen to further strengthen links between the community and certainly between the younger supporters, and Jasper will add more entertainment to each home game, particularly prior to kick-off and at the half-time interval.

Jasper's first appearance was very well received as he handed out ATFC goodies to young fans amongst the 453 crowd on Tuesday night and his introduction will let the very young children identify with the club.
