Work on Fleetwood Town’s new 2,000 seat grandstand has started ahead of Sunday’s Blue Square North play-off final against Alfreton Town. Chairman Andy Pilley is delighted to see work commence after planning permission was granted in February.
“This is such an exciting time not just on the field but off the pitch as well. The plant is preparing for the demolition work on the east side of the ground. That’s in readiness for building the new grandstand and it’s the first signs of onsite work following the detailed tendering and contract negotiations.
“Come what may, Monday will see the bulldozers move in and then there will be nothing left so the foundations can be laid. From those foundations the 2,000 flagship stand will rise.”
The sell-out crowd will see signs of the initial ground works and fans will even make use of the cleared area.
“The current building work will only have a positive impact on Sunday in as much we are going to use the excavated area for a temporary toilet block and another refreshment stand. That will only be of advantage to supporters in that part of the ground,” added Pilley.
