It was perhaps ironic that Blue Square South champions Newport County overwhelmed Weston-super-Mare, taking their points tally to just shy of the 100-mark with three games still to play, and in the process relegate their hosts into the bargain.
In front of a crowd of 810, County were handed an unexpected bonus in the 2nd minute when a Charlie Henry pass picked out former Weston striker Dave Gilroy, whose run was checked by a tug from Seagulls skipper Mike Green.
Green received a straight red card.
County went in front on 23 minutes with Henry striking home an excellent direct free kick.
In the 32nd minute it was 2-0 with Henry’s pass found Gilroy, who blasted home.
It was 3-0 earl when Paul Cochlin forced the ball home after a Danny Rose corner but Weston pulled one back in the 54th minute, substitute Jake Harris heading in.
But Craig Reid completed the scoring 17 minutes from time.
