There was a surprise in Blue Square North on Saturday as leaders Fleetwood Town went down to a 2-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Gainsborough Trinity.
The Fylde coast outfit`s good run finally came to an end when Ashley Burbeary after 24 minutes and Luke Beckett 5 minutes from time netted the goals that eased the pressure on Trinity`s former Aston Villa boss Brian Little and improved their chances of avoiding the drop.
The other two sides in the bottom three, Harrogate Town and Vauxhall Motors, failed to win, although Motors will deem a 1-1 draw at play-off chasing Droyslden as a decent outcome.
Chris Lane put the visitors in front after 34 minutes only for top scorer Shaun Whalley to restore parity for the Bloods 10 minutes into the second half.
Harrogate went down to a 3-0 defeat at Wetherby Road to inconsistent AFC Telford United, who are now firmly back in the play-off race.
Sean Newton opened the scoring after 37 minutes and Damian Reeves on 69 minutes and an Andy Brown penalty 11 minutes from time sealed Town`s fate.
Hyde United`s point from their 1-1 draw at Marston Road against Stafford Rangers was also important as it maintained a useful four-point gap between them and the bottom three.
Veteran Tony Dinning put Rangers ahead after 13 minutes and another experienced player, David McNiven, replied for the Tigers 6 minutes before the break.
All that will leave Redditch United looking over their shoulders after they lost the derby at the Valley Stadium against Solihull Moors, for whom Alex Price was the goalscoring hero, scoring the only goal of the game in the 33rd minute.
Another side in need of some points to avoid being sucked into the fight at the bottom are Gloucester City, who went down to a 2-1 defeat at the Corinium Stadium to Stalybridge Celtic, thus giving Jim Harvey his first success as Celtic boss.
They left it late, however, as they trailed to Lee Smith`s 49th minute penalty until 7 minutes from time when Joe O`Neill levelled.
A draw looked on the cards until Warren Peyton grabbed Celtic`s winner from the spot in stoppage time.
The two other games resulted in more comprehensive victories.
Northwich Victoria beat Ilkeston Town 4-1 at home, coming back from being a Paul Dempsey goal behind after 50 minutes to win.
Nat Kerr equalised within a minute and Jamie Vermiglio put Vics` in front 7 minutes later.
Ian Herring made it 3-1 with 13 minutes to go, with Wayne Riley adding a fourth in the 83rd minute.
Alfreton Town`s game at the Impact Arena survived a mid-morning pitch inspection – and Farsley Celtic probably wished it hadn`t after they returned north with a 6-2 defeat to their name.
Jake Moult started the rout by putting the Reds in front after 10 minutes and an Andy Todd spot-kick doubled their lead on 25 minutes, with Liam Hearn (pictured) making it 3-0 just efore half time.
Hearm scored his second in the 58th minute, Simeon Bambrook pulled one back for Farsley 9 minutes later only for Kris Bowler to restore Alfreton`s four-goal advantage 5 minutes later.
Matt Barlow pulled a second back for the visitors 10 minutes from time, but Bowler added his second and the Reds` sixth 2 minutes before the end.
