Forest Green Rovers Football Club has been given permission by the family of our supporter who died at Notts County`s Meadow Lane on Tuesday evening, to formally release more information.
Fifty-year-old Paul Davis from Chandos Road, Rodborough, Stroud was a long-standing supporter of the club over many years and was well known by other supporters, not only at home games but on many long trips which the club has made over the years.
Paul had travelled privately to the FA Cup match against Notts County in the company of a friend and work colleague. In fact Paul bizarrely had been interviewed prior to the match at Notts County by BBC Points West outside Meadow Lane and the clip shown of him being interviewed about the teams chances, was aired only a couple of hours before his death.
This interview showed him in a happy and confident mood, looking forward to one of the most important matches ever to be played by the club. He personified in the interview what it meant to him to support his local club.
The club has liaised since this tragic event with Paul's family and we extend our deepest sympathy not only to his three children, Jonathan, Ben and Kimberley and other close relatives and his many friends and work colleagues at NHK Bearings, Stonehouse, where Paul had been employed for a number of years.
Forest Green Rovers have invited members of his family to attend our next home match against Mansfield Town on Saturday, 30th January at which due respect will be shown in his memory and as part of that invite a collection will be taken for the British Heart Foundation.
The club would also like to thank Notts County Football Club and Notts County Supporters Club for their kind gesture in arranging a similar collection this coming Saturday when they entertain Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup at Meadow Lane.
Full details will be circulated shortly in relation to full funeral arrangements at which the club will be represented by players, management and staff.
