Histon Sack Fallon
13 January 2010 09:14:00

Steve Fallon has been sacked as manager of Blue Square Premier club Histon.

Fallon, who only returned to the club on Monday after being suspended since December 7th, was relieved of his duties after irreconcilable differences with chairman Tony Roach came to the surface.

Alan Lewer, who had been in temporary charge during Fallon’s exile, becomes permanent manager and will be assisted by coach Ian Hart.

Roach told the Cambridge News: “After resuming the role only yesterday it soon became very evident that underlying irreconcilable differences between Steve and myself and the board would preclude the partnership ever working for the benefit of Histon Football Club.

“It was a unanimous decision of the Board of Directors to relieve Steve of his responsibilities with immediate effect.”

The news brings a bitter end to Fallon’s rein of more than ten years, which has coincided with almost unparalleled success for Histon.

Fallon took the Stutes from the Ridgeons League to the peak of the non-League Pyramid with four promotions, culminating in reaching the Blue Square Premier play-offs last season.

Other highlights included last season’s famous FA Cup run, when Histon saw off League One sides Swindon and Leeds United before being beaten by Swansea City.

The beginning of the end came when Fallon was suspended last month after a disagreement with Roach, who had taken over from Gareth Baldwin in October, over the release of four first-team players.

A first round of talks between Fallon and Roach produced no outcome, but a second round on Sunday resulted in the manager taking the helm again.

Speaking after that meeting, Fallon said: “We agreed Tony wants me as the manager and I want to be the manager.

“At the end of the day, its all about Histon Football Club and we both feel this is the best decision for the club.”

However, it seems that is now not the case.
