Fleetwood Town midfielder Steven Torpey will be looking for his side to extend their unbeaten run to five games when they visit Chester City on Friday night in the FA Trophy First Round.
The Friday night kick-off against the Blue Square Premier side follows advice given to the troubled Cheshire club by their local police force.
Torpey received a lively response from the home crowd when he came on as a second half substitute and helped Town claimed a point at AFC Telford United last weekend. The former Telford man said he wasn’t surprised by the reaction from the home fans.
“It’s part and parcel of football. You just take it and carry on with the game. It ended up being a tough match and a bit of a battle. We took a point home and kept the clean sheet, so that will do for me.”
The midfielder, 28, says the game against the former Football League outfit, who sit at the bottom of the BSP, will test Town’s credentials as they push on from their seventh place in the Blue Square North.
“We are doing ok in our league and are in a good position. Playing against teams from a higher division is always a good test at this time of the season. A decent performance against Chester City will show us where we are and how we are doing.
“We had a good training session on Thursday. Everyone was buzzing and ready to go. The lads are looking forward to the game.”
Meanwhile, left-back Alan Wright (pictured) is looking forward to his first taste of FA Trophy football. Wright, an FA Cup finalist with Aston Villa, was on Masters football duty in Asia when Fleetwood knocked out Northwich Victoria in the last round.
“It’s the first time I’ve been involved with the FA Trophy and it’s another competition to get under my belt. We see it as another game and we will be looking for another win.”
