Wright Off on `Leave`
18 November 2009 09:26:00

Fleetwood Town left-back Alan Wright has been given a short leave of absence to take part in the Masters Tour of Asia.

The tournament takes place this week in Vietnam and Malaysia and Wright will be taking part with the likes of Andrew Cole, Jason McAteer, Ray Parlour, Andrei Kanchelskis and Brian Deane.

Wright, 37, is no stranger to the indoor competition having appeared earlier this year for one of his former clubs.

“I played in the summer for Aston Villa team in the Masters and then received a call about the Asian tournament. This tour will take place in Malaysia and Vietnam."

Fleetwood boss Micky Mellon excused his player from duties and the defender will miss the FA Trophy tie this Saturday when Northwich Victoria visit Highbury.

The defender has made fourteen appearances for Town this season, scoring once with last Saturday’s opener against Redditch United, and will represent another of his former clubs in Asia.

“I spoke with the gaffer and he gave me the go ahead. It’s worked out well regarding our Blue Square North fixture list. I’ll be playing for Sheffield United this time and I’ll also represent the Liverpool team in an XI aside against the Vietnam national team.

“It will be good to catch up with a few faces from the past but I won’t be treating it as a holiday. We’ve some tough games coming up in the league and my match fitness will be kept going with the games over there.”
