The only game in the Conference on Wednesday night saw Corby Town entertain Hinckley United in an East Midlands derby in the Blue Square North at the Rockingham Triangle.
A poor crowd of just 266 – low presumably because many chose to stay and watch the World Cup qualifiers on the TV – saw a dreadful first half-hour, and even those bothering to attend were perhaps wishing they too had stayed at home!
However, it was the visiting Knitters who drew first blood, and ironically it was scored by a player who used to ply his trade a few miles down the road at Kettering Town, winger Andy Hall, who opened the scoring after 34 minutes to his obvious delight.
The goal seemed to galvanise the Steelmen and they equalised 3 minutes before half time when Jason Lee chested the ball down for Steve Diggin (pictured) to rifle the ball into the roof of the net from ab acute angle.
Both sides huffed and puffed in the second period, but clear-cut chances were few and far between and a point apiece was probably the right outcome in the end.
