Blue Square North club Blyth Spartans have confirmed that goalkeeper Craig Turns has re-signed and will be in the squad for Tuesday night’s trip to Vauxhall Motors.
Turns is no stranger to Croft Park, having originally joined the club on the eve of the 2003 season upon his release from Sunderland, signing for then Spartans manager Paul Baker and making his debut in the opening game of the season against Ashton United.
A composed and hugely popular player, Turns swept the board at the 2004 players’ presentation night, winning all of the awards available to him.
Better was to come in the 2005/06 season as Turns was a key member of Harry Dunn’s side as they cruised to the UniBond Premier Division title (as well as a couple of cups for good measure) to secure the club’s place in the Blue Square North.
All in all he played 145 games for the Spartans between 2003 and 2006.
Since leaving, he has played for Consett and Durham City, a move which saw him win the UniBond Division One North title last season.
Meanwhile, Shaun Reay (pictured) has signed for skilltrainingltd Northern League side Shildon. The deal, however, is not a loan deal.
Spartans still retain his Conference registration, and will do for the remainder of this season. This will allow him the opportunity to return to Croft Park should the club and he agree at a later stage.
