Blue Square Bet South club Ebbsfleet United have handed 21-year-old defender Ugo Udoji a chance to set down some roots again.
A product of the youth set up at Rushden & Diamonds, Udoji made three appearances for Diamonds in the Hillier Senior Cup during the 2006/07 season, playing at right-back.
At the end of his term, however, he was released. Following former manager Paul Hart's appointment at the Portsmouth Academy, he moved to the south coast side to continue his development.
He was released by Portsmouth towards the end of the 2007/08 season and had trials with QPR, Lincoln City and Bradford Cty.
In October 2008, he joined the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain where he hoped to resurrect his career and joined Stafford Rangers in September 2009.
His travels continued with trials at Weymouth, Torquay and Bromley before signing for Fleet.
Fleet have also registered assistant-manager Paul McCarthy, the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international.
McCarthy, now 39, joined Fleet in November 2004 from AFC Hornchurch, and has also worn the colours of Oxford United, Wycombe and Brighton.
