Saturday`s Blue Square South Review....
13 March 2010 17:45:00

Newport County will have to wait a little longer before celebrating winning the Blue Square South title after wins for both second-placed Chelmsford City and third-placed Braintree Town on Saturday.

Chelmsford didn`t have it easy at second-bottom Weston-super-Mare, however, and it took an 89th minute winner from Anthony Cook to earn the spoils after Matthew Lock had equalised Jermaine Clarke`s 20th minute opener for the Seagulls on the hour-mark.

Braintree were also made to struggle at Cressing Road against Dorchester Town, who missed a 5th minute penalty before falling behind to a 57th minute Carl Bruce effort.

George Purcell doubled the Iron`s lead with 18 minutes to go, and matters got even worse for the Magpies when player/caretaker boss Ashley Vickers was sent-off.

Staines Town slipped into fourth spot after beating another contender, Woking, 3-0 and the Cards` play-off hopes now look remote.

New loanee Andy White broke the deadlock immediately after half time and then an Andre Scarlett brace after 57 and 90 minutes sealed the Swans` victory.

Btah City dropped to fifth after a 1-1 draw at sixth-placed Eastleigh, who fell behind to a 29th minute Kaid Mohammed penalty but pulled back on terms through Ross Bottomley on 66 minutes.

Dover Athletic, St Albans City, Thurrock, Welling United and Bromley all remain well in the play-off hunt, although the latter have probably played too many games, but kept in there, courtesy of a 2-0 Hayes Lane win over Worcester City on Saturday with a Warren McBean brace after 41 and 56 minutes.

Dover enjoyed a good 3-1 win at the Camrose against Basingstoke Town in which Frannit Collin gave them an early 4th minute lead.

Ollie Shultz doubled the Whites` advantage after 27 minutes and it was effectively game over when Shaun Welford made it 3-0 with only 34 minutes gone.

Gary Frewen did manage to pull one back for Stoke after 57 minutes, but Dover held on relatively comfortably.

St Albans beat another contender Thurrock 1-0 with a goal from Adam Everitt right on the stroke of half time at Clarence Park.

Welling took advantage of a youthful Weymouth side to win 3-0 at the Wessex Stadium with goals from Lee Clarke after 49 and 90 minutes and Dean Cracknell on 56.

Elsewhere, there is still a seven-point gap between Lewes and safety after the Rooks went down to a 3-0 home defeat to Havant & Waterlooville, whose Mustafa Tyriaki broke the deadlock after 67 minutes.

Ian Simpemba added number two on 73 minutes and Manny Williams the third 5 minutes later.

And Maidenhead United are probably safe now after beating a Hampton & Richmond Borough side still requiring a point or two themselves yet.

Barrie Matthews gave the Beavers a great start when he put them in front from the spot after less than 3 minutes.

But Sam Collins equalised on 56 minutes and Mark Nisbet netted what proved to be the winner with 15 minutes to go.
