Kelly Makes Permanent Poppies Move
06 January 2010 11:56:00

Whilst striker Francis Green has left Kettering Town to join Blue Square Premier rivals Oxford United on a permanent basis, former Rushden & Diamonds midfielder Marcus Kelly has made the opposite journey to his home-town club.

After showing great promise and skill in the youth set-up and reserve team, Kelly was named on the bench for the Diamonds` League Two matches against AFC Bournemouth, Stockport County and Barnsley in the 2003/04 season and soon made his full debut against Brighton away.

In the following season he made a further three starting appearances plus eight as substitute, and in the summer of 2005 was rewarded with a six month professional contract.

Following a string of fine performances at the beginning of the 2005/06 campaign, which saw him become a first-team regular.

However, after making over 120 appearances for Diamonds, the left-sided midfielder moved to the Kassam Stadium to join Oxford.
