Reds Looking to Extend Unbeaten Run
13 November 2009 13:20:00

Alfreton Town travel to Hinckley United on Saturday aiming to extend their unbeaten Blue Square North run to six games and cement their place in the top five.

A very tough game is in prospect though, as United have only lost once at home in eight games so far this season - conceding only six goals along the way on their own turf - and they have only tasted defeat once in their last nine league outings home and away.

Hinckley have achieved home wins over Gainsborough Trinity (2-0), Ilkeston Town (1-0), Farsley Celtic (4-1) and Redditch United (5-1).

They have shared the spoils with Stalybridge Celtic (0-0), Vauxhall Motors (1-1) and Droylsden (1-1).

They have been slightly inconsistent, with the home defeat coming against struggling Hyde United who won 2-1, and the one defeat in the last nine was a 6-1 thrashing at Blyth Spartans three games ago.

Countering that though are very good draws on the road at Corby Town and league leaders Southport and despite shipping the six in Northumberland, Hinckley have the second best defensive record in the division.

A victory could see the Reds claim second place outright, but if they are going to claim all three points, they will have to find only a second win in 12 games in all competitions against the Leicestershire side.

In the league over the past five seasons, the sides have shared the points six times in drawn games, but Hinckley have won the other four.

The solitary Alfreton victory in recent years over United was a 3-1 success at Hinckley in the FA Trophy third qualifying round in 2007/08.

United go into the game in ninth place with 24 points from 15 games, two less than the Reds have played and they are obviously a serious threat to the play-off places should they win Saturday's fixture and their game in hand as well.

Top scorers for United in the league are Matt West and Adam Webster who have both hit five so far.

Reds boss Nicky Law will need late fitness checks on both Anton Brown and Matt Wilson but has no other injury or suspension worries for the game
