Wide Man Patterson Signs for New Campaign
27 July 2010 10:56:00

Glenn Pennyfather’s revised squad for 2010/11 is nearing completion.

This is after he secured the left-sided player he was looking for when the popular Marlon Patterson agreed to re-sign for Chelmsford City at Monday night’s Melbourne training session.

Patterson, a former Millwall and Chelsea youngster who originally joined from Bishop’s Stortford in December, went on to make 21 appearances last year at left-back and wide in midfield and quickly endeared himself to the fans with a series of pacey and energetic performances, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 Essex Senior Cup demolition of Aveley.

Beginning his non-league career with Crawley Town in 2002, Marlon moved on to Fisher Athletic, Carshalton Athletic and Billericay Town before settling down at Dulwich Hamlet. He signed for the now defunct Yeading in 2006/07 and competed in the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground whilst with the Ding.

His love affair with the competition would later continue as one of a handful of games for Histon in January 2009 included a debut in the FA Cup Third Round against Swansea City. Six games in the Football League followed with Dagenham & Redbridge at the start of 2007/08 but that season was a nomadic time for Patterson, who went on loan with Welling United, Grays Athletic and Bishop’s Stortford (twice).

The Histon stay was sandwiched between his spells at Woodside Park and, upon re-joining Stortford in February 2009, he remained for the rest of the 2008/09 campaign and much of 2009/10 despite trialling for Staines Town and the Clarets during pre-season. Marlon also managed to fit in a period playing football on the continent.
