Holdsworth Pounces for Two
17 July 2010 10:27:00

Dean Holdsworth, manager of newly-promoted Blue Square Bet Premier club Newport County, has confirmed the signings of experienced goalkeeper Glyn Garner and midfielder Daryl Knights.

Garner (pictured) is a full Welsh international. He played in the Principality Welsh Premier for Cwmbran Town and Llanelli but completed a degree in Sports and Leisure Management before opting for a full-time career as a footballer, signing for Bury at the age of 23.

He established himself as first choice keeper at Gigg Lane and was an ever-present for two seasons before joining Leyton Orient, helping them to promotion and earning his Wales call-up in May 2006.

After missing just six League matches in two seasons for the London club, he joined Shrewsbury Town where he was again a first-team regular, taking his tally of League appearances to 257 before leaving them early in 2010 and playing for Grays Athletic in the Conference Premier for the remainder of last season.

Knights started his professional career with Ipswich Town, making his Football League debut at the age of 16 and winning England Schools and Youth international honours.

He played for Yeovil Town on loan in 2006/07 and joined the Somerset club the following season before a loan move to Cambridge United.

It was not until he joined Kidderminster Harriers, initially on loan in January 2008 however, that he had regular first-team football.

He made sixty-three appearances as a creative forward in Conference Premier for Harriers, plus another thirty as substitute, scoring nine times and joined County in July 2010.
