Now Taggart Moves to Exiles
24 May 2010 09:32:00

Dean Holdsworth, manager of Blue Square Bet South champions Newport County, has made his third new signing of the summer so far and has re-signed influential midfielder Charlie Henry for another year.

Following last week`s signings of Giuseppe Sole and Ollie Thorne, Holdsworth has now brought in winger Tony Taggart from former league rivals Eastleigh.

Taggart (pictured) began his career with Brentford and had a spell with Farnborough Town before returning to the League with Barnet in the summer of 2003.

He rejoined Boro a year later, moved to Weymouth before returning to Cherrywood Road for a third time in October 2005.

A few months later he was on his travels again, this time to Havant & Waterlooville, before signing for Eastleigh in the summer of 2008.

Holdsworth said: “Tony has committed himself to training full-time and he is another player with skill, energy and knowhow.

“We feel that the stage is set for Tony to make an impact. Knowing him as a person, I'm very sure he will add another good personality to the squad.”

Taggart was delighted with the move: "Like any footballer I always want to play at the highest level of football that I can and when Dean approached me I saw it as a great opportunity to play for a team that could give me a crack at playing in the Football League.

“I am looking forward to the full-time training. The extra days can really make a difference and it is something that I have always wanted to do. Without being full-time, Newport showed last season that they were a strong outfit. They were very well organised and everyone knew their job. They always looked comfortable and solid at the back and the County supporters can always be heard letting you know what they think.

“After speaking to Dean I rang my old team mates Charlie Henry & Jamie Collins. They both encouraged me to join and said that the County were a proper club that really look after you.”

Meanwhile, Taggart`s former team-mate Charlie Henry has agreed to stay with the Exiles.

Holdsworth added: “I'm very pleased to announce the re-signing of Charlie Henry today for another year.

“Charlie has committed himself to being full-time with us next year and I'm delighted.”

Henry said: "After winning the league last year I really wanted to stay with a club that is going places. The fans have played a massive part in my decision and helped make it the best footballing year of my life.

“The full-time training will make us all sharper and fitter which we will need to be in the Conference National next season. Working together will also give us the confidence on the back of our success and confidence plays a massive part. If we get a couple of wins under our belt early, I don't see why we can't go on another unbeaten run like last season."
