Steelmen Do Their Bit
22 April 2010 08:59:00

All Corby Town can do now is sit and wait for Saturday`s results to come in after finishing their Blue Square North season with a 4-2 Rockingham Triangle win over mid-table Blyth Spartans on Wednesday night.

A good crowd of 771 saw Jack Defty give the Steelmen a 17th minute lead that Steve Towers doubled less than 3 minutes later.

Paul Brayson pulled Spartans back into the game just past the hour-mark, but Steve Diggin restored the home side`s two-goal advantage with 20 minutes remaining.

But Michael Tait reduced the by one 2 minutes later, only for Diggin (pictured) to notch his second 6 minutes later to complete a good night`s work for Graham Drury`s side.

He now has to await the results of the games involving Droylsden and Hinckley United, who face Redditch United at home and Alfreton Town away respectively.

The Steelmen now hold the final play-off spot but only by one point from the Knitters and two ahead of the Bloods.

The other game on Wednedsay was between already doomed Harrogate Town and safe Gloucester City at Wetherby Road, and it ended honours even.

The small crowd of just 142 had to wait until 13 minutes from time when David Syers broke the deadlock by giving the home side the lead, but Jack Harris equalised in the last minute of normal time to earn the Tigers a point.
