A couple of weeks ago Harrogate Town would have killed for a 1-0 win against fellow Blue Square North strugglers Gloucester City. However, the Yorkshire side have since been condemned to relegation and Thursday night`s result was fairly insignificant
But what relegation meant that Simon Weaver`s men could play in a much more relaxed fashion – as could the Tigers to be fairr as they had sealed safety a week or so ago.
The only goal of the game – indeed the evening in the division - was scored after 18 minutes when a shot from Dave Syers hit the underside of the bar and Peter Knox was on hand to net from close range.
Ironically, Harrogate and Gloucester meet again next Wednesday at Wetherby Road for the penultimate home game of the season.
In the other game played on Thursday night, Hinckley United`s play-off hopes have took a blow after a goalless draw with Eastwood Town at the Greene King Stadium.
Dean Thomas' side are left with the task of having to beat Harrogate on Saturday and do the same at third-placed Alfreton Town next week.
