Blue Square Premier club Hayes & Yeading United have received good news on stricken Steve Basham after the striker was rushed to hospital with a neck injury following Saturday's 6-1 home defeat to Rushden & Diamonds.
The experienced forward, on loan until the end of the season from Luton Town, collapsed in a heap after an innocuous challenge with Diamonds` captain Jamie Stewart.
He appeared to be unconscious and play was stopped for several minutes late on in the game as United's club doctor and physiotherapist tended to the player. Basham lay prone while a neck brace was fitted and he was stretchered off the pitch.
After the game he was taken to hospital by ambulance and United manager Garry Haylock followed in his car to wait by Basham's bed-side.
He had got pins and needles in his hands and his feet which is usually a sign of a spinal injury. However, thankfully his X-rays were clear.
Basham's injury capped a thoroughly miserable afternoon for Hayes & Yeading, whose insipid and lacklustre display was of major concern to Haylock.
