Sad Loss of `Mr Woking`
22 January 2010 11:20:00

It is with much sadness, that the Football Conference has been informed that Phil Ledger - `Mr Woking FC` - passed away during the night after being in hospital since New Year`s Day.

Phil, who was 77 years of age, was regarded as a legend not only within his own club, whom he had served for half a century, but also by the Football Conference.

Phil had only just stepped down from the Board of Directors at the Football Conference in June 2009 after many years of dedicated service to all clubs in membership. No doubt many current and past members of the competition will have their own fond memories of Phil.

Having served Woking FC in numerous capacities he was still a Director, Football Secretary and Life President at his beloved Cards'.

Chairman of the Football Conference Brian Lee stated: "Phil was a wonderful servant to the game, not just with Woking FC but to all clubs and his wisdom and understanding of the game was second to none.

“It was not only through his association with the Conference that I knew Phil so well. We had been friends for many years, for we had a passing affiliation in our respective work as magistrates.

“His passing is such sad news but he will be held in affection by all who know him. Our condolences go out to his partner Angela, his family, friends and colleagues."

Funeral details will be notified in due course.
