Rod Stringer’s Aveley side will be the visitors to Melbourne to face Chelmsford City in the quarter finals of the Essex Senior Cup supported by BBC Essex.
The Ryman League Premier Division side defeated Billericay Town, 4-2, in an entertaining game at Mill Field on Wednesday night.
The Millers were paired with Glenn Pennyfather’s men in the last eight earlier in the day and earned the right to face Chelmsford in the last eight, a replay of the 2003 final at Roots Hall which finished in the Clarets’ favour by five goals to nil. Aveley, however, have since wreaked revenge in the same competition and the eagerly-awaited cup tie will be fixed for a date prior to the 9th January deadline for the round.
Elsewhere in the draw, which was broadcast on BBC Essex, Colin Wallington’s Ryman League Division One North Maldon Town earned their trip of the season when they were pulled out away at Coca-Cola League One club Colchester United.
The Blackwater club, who have defeated Tilbury and Concord Rangers from the same division so far to reach the last eight, can now look forward to a match at the Community Stadium as they bid to reach their first ever final.
There’s an Essex Senior League flavour in another tie as AFC Hornchurch, 2006 champions who now compete in the Ryman Premier, are guaranteed a tie against either the runners-up from that year, Waltham Abbey, or Bowers & Pitsea in one of two games remaining from the last round.
Hullbridge Sports, victors against Tiptree United, London APSA and Braintree Town to date, have secured an attractive tie away at League Two outfit Dagenham & Redbridge. The draw was administered by Essex County Football Association Chief Executive, Phil Sammons, and BBC Essex’s Ben Fryer, who pulled out the home and away clubs respectively at the station’s Chelmsford base.
