New Backroom Staff for Wings
14 November 2009 10:57:00

Blue Square South club Welling United have confirmed that Barry Ashby has been appointed the new assistant-manager to new player boss Jamie Day.

Ashby is a former Wings` defender having had a playing spell with the club during the 2005/06 season.

Previously with Gillingham where the centre half made over 300 appearances, more recently he was the first-team manager of Ryman League Premier Division side Margate but departed in October last year.

Also joining the Wings is former VCD Athletic number two Dean Frost in a coaching position.

Frost, who also played for VCD, Erith & Belvedere, Bromley and Dartford as a defender or midfielder, suffered a knee injury in his late 20s, forcing him to retire and concentrate on getting his full coaching badge.

He returned to VCD in 2005 to turn out in the odd game for the 2004/05 season before coaching the reserves in the same season then moving up to assist the first-team manager for the following season.

He took over as caretaker-manager for the last eight games of the 2006/07 season when the previous manager resigned, just missing out on leading the Vickers to the championship, finishing second to Whitstable Town.

Frost recently completed his full UEFA pro coaching badge in Northern Ireland.
