A former favourite and a new player who could soon become a firm fans` hero, helped Bishop`s Stortford to a Blue Square South derby win over St Albans City on Saturday.
Stortford's `prodigal son` Lewis Smith returned to help Blues to a 2-0 defeat of their Hertfordshire neighbours.
Smith's 11th minute wonder-strike reminded supporters of what they had been missing as manager Mark Simpson demoted Charlie Sheringham and Ashley Nicholls to the bench.
Another new signing, ex-Chelmsford City striker Bertie Brayley joined Smith up front and provided the cross for Danny Harris' goal before half time.
Brayley re-signed for Chelmsford in March 2009 after a short spell at fellow Blue Square South outfit Eastleigh.
Brayley originally arrived at City in the summer of 2007 and ended-up being one of the club's leading goalscorers during their Ryman League championship-winning campaign, netting fourteen times in the league.
The 27-year-old former West Ham United youth star was an FA Youth Cup winner with the Hammers in 1999, scoring three in a 9-0 aggregate win over Coventry City.
He then moved to Queens Park Rangers in 2000 but was a victim of the club's move into administration, being transferred to Swindon Town where he made ten first-team appearances.
His first taste of non-League football was with Canvey Island in 2002 before moving to Hornchurch via a loan spell at Heybridge Swifts and Brayley has since gained experience with Braintree Town (twice), Billericay Town, Heybridge Swifts, Farnborough Town, Thurrock, Aldershot Town, Grays Athletic, Margate and Eastleigh (twice).
