Oxford Make it Through to First Play-Off Final
03 May 2010 17:43:00

Goals from Matthew Green and James Constable sent Oxford United to the Blue Square Premier play-off final at Wembley 3-1 on aggregate after beating Rushden & Diamonds 2-0 at a packed Kassam Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

In front of a fantastic crowd of 11,963, a first half of few opportunities for either side saw Danny Bulman force Dale Roberts into a fine save, while Aaron O'Connor and Paul Terry wasted chances for the visitors at the other end.

But Green latched onto Simon Clist's pass 8 minutes after the break to swing the tie Oxford's way.

Four minutes later, Jack Midson provided Constable with the opportunity for his twenty-fifth goal of the season.

There were to be no alarms for Oxford, who travel to Wembley for the first time since 1986 in their first ever play-off final, as they seek a return to the Football League after being relegated in 2006.
