New Trio for Barrow

Barrow AFC have boosted their play-off chasing squad with three new additions.

Bluebirds` boss Paul Cox has brought in Matty Platt and Connor Thomson on loan from Championship side Blackburn Rovers until the end of the season as well as defender Luke Burke from Rovers` league rivals Wigan Athletic for the same term.

Nineteen-year-old Platt is predominantly a centre-back, who has captained Blackburn`s under-23s side.

Thomson (pictured) joined Rovers from Carlisle United in December 2014 following a successful trial.

The 21-year-old is a versatile performer who can play anywhere across midfield and also in defence.

He has recently penned a new two-and-a-half-year deal to stay at Ewood Park until the summer of 2019.

Burke, 18, joins in time to join the Bluebirds` squad ahead of tonight's match at Macclesfield Town.

The Liverpool-born defender has been at Wigan since the age of 12, and has progressed through all the age ranges, captaining the under-18s last season before signing his first professional contract in the summer.

Having featured in pre-season with the first-team, he made his debut in the opening game of the season at Bristol City and kept his place at right-back for the next two fixtures at home to Blackburn and Birmingham City, coming off the bench at Nottingham Forest and starting at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday.

His progress was halted by a hamstring strain but he has been playing for the development squad and signed a one-year extension to his contract, which keeps him at the club until the end of the 2017/18 season, in November.
