Micky Mellon takes his Blue Square North leaders to fifth-placed Eastwood Town on Tuesday on the back of Saturday’s win over Gloucester City.
Eastwood suffered defeat at Hyde United on at the weekend but their play-off hopes remain on track following promotion last season.
Town were 3-1 winners in the corresponding fixture back in August with a brace from Adam Warlow and Sean Clancy providing the third. Mellon is not expecting an easy ride despite that early season result and Town’s current run of eight straight league wins.
“It’s a mid week game away from home and we obviously want to go there and give a good account of ourselves. The word we are talking about at the moment is focus and that will definitely be needed against Eastwood.
“We know we are going to have to compete in what will be a difficult game. If we are not up to standard then we’ll take nothing from the games.”
Town will look to build on their winning habit which saw goals from Nick Rogan (2) and a header from Clancy last weekend.
“Our win on Saturday was extremely valuable and what we take forward from all our games is increasing confidence. The lads all have individual jobs to do in the team and, collectively, we are very difficult to beat. We expect a battle at Eastwood and our job is achieving a good result.”
Shuan Beeley remains sidelined and centre half Michael Taylor needed to be withdrawn during Saturday’s win over Gloucester City.
“Taylor will be fine. He came off just as a precaution. There aren’t any other concerns for Tuesday. Some of the returning lads put some match time under their belts on Monday evening against Bury and built their fitness.
“The Bury game was very useful. This is our level and these are teams we need to play against to stretch us and ask questions. It was a good test for all involved.”
A Fleetwood Town XI were narrowly defeated 2-1 at Highbury on Monday evening by the League Two side. Town were unable to make it a double over the Shakers this season after Tom Cahill's second half opener. The Blue Square North leaders were 2-1 winners during pre-season but goals from Jack Redshaw and Ritchie Baker gave Bury the edge this week.
