Blue Square South club Braintree Town hope to sign a new wide left-sided midfielder before they face their toughest pre-season tests this week.
"We would like to add just one or two new players and we are talking to one in particular who can play wide on the left-hand side but also possibly in central midfield," explained assistant-manager Jason Broom (pictured). "We just feel having at least one more player - and possibly two would give us more options and more competition for places.
"But as usual before we sign anybody we have to be sure they are the right players we want for the jobs needed.
"We may have one player in before our two big pre-season matches which would be idea but we'll have to see how things go."
On Monday the Iron entertain Dagenham & Redbridge, where manager Robbie Garvey was assistant to John Still before moving to Cressing Road, and they are expected to send a strong team down.
Then on Friday evening the new-look Iron side will host Steve Evans' Blue Square Premier outfit Crawley Town in what will be another tough match but Broom is confident their younger side will cope with the pressure.
Since Garvey and Broom took over towards the end of last season they have rebuilt the Iron squad with a mixture of a few experienced players from last year and a handful of young, hungry players keen to excel and move on up in the game.
