Stevenage Borough won the Herts Senior Cup for the first time in their history on Wednesday evening as a Dino Maamria brace ensured Borough came from behind to win at the County Ground.
The Borough coach played his first game for Borough in some months and in his midfield position never looked out of place as he pulled the strings and orchestrated a stunning comeback.
The first half saw few chances of note. Cheshunt scored with their first real attack. They earned a corner and when the ball came in it was headed back across goal and headed into the net by Julian Edwards.
Dayo Junaid almost hit back straight away with a stunning shot from distance which didn’t quite dip enough to threaten the goalkeeper.
The only other chance of note came from Cheshunt when Ola Akinnawo shot narrowly over the bar.
The second half provided a bit more entertainment as the effort from Borough was matched by the vocal support. Dino Maamria looked like the biggest threat for Borough.
Cheshunt attacked throughout the half and were unlucky not to extend their lead with a shot that was saved onto the post by Gibson.
It was Maamria who levelled the game though as he ran onto the ball before cutting insode and powering a his shot low into the corner.
Despite more pressure from both sides Maamria hit the headlines again when the ball bounced in the box and at his feet for him to stab home in the six yard box.
Cheshunt continued to pressure the Borough goal, but they held firm to secure the trophy for the first time in their history.
