NORTH: Alfreton receive dazzling report

Alfreton Town have received a dazzling report following a recent lux grading check on the club's new floodlight system.

The state-of-the art lights were tested on September 28th by specialist local company Abacus - who installed them - and they confirmed to the club on October 8th that they have settled to a fantastic level of illumination.

The report from the company pointed out that the Impact Arena floodlights give an illuminous level average lux of 516 with a minimum value of 294.

The new lights were always going to be one of the most major improvements ever undertaken on the North Street site and the club's decision to go for the standard and quality that they did can be put into perspective by the fact that the Coca Cola Football League One requirements are 350 average and 210 minimum.

With the Reds currently sat four points clear at the top of Nationwide North, and hoping to build a long overdue FA Cup run, the future looks very bright at the club. Indeed, should the club manage to progress sufficiently in the FA Cup, the lights have been confirmed as being more than good enough for TV company requirements.

FA Cup trail
Looking ahead to this Saturday's intriguing FA Cup third qualifying round tie at Birkenhead-based Cammell Laird, chairman Wayne Bradley said: 'Despite there being a distance of several divisions between us in the non league pyramid, it won't be easy. We are expecting and planning for a typical FA Cup tie where we will inevitably get sucked into a bit of a battle.

'Alfreton Town become the Newcastle United going to Hereford United of past Cup giant-killing comparisons. It will be a real test of character for our players in a tie which will be full of desire.'

The hosts are obviously playing well below their playing staff station as a 5-1 win at UniBond Premier Division outfit Bridlington Town in a previous round bears out. Bradley ended: 'Make no mistake, nobody from this camp will be going there underestimating them. We have painful memories of failings in recent seasons to remind us how important it is to get it right on the day. It will be a real blood and thunder typical cup tie and may the best team win.'

Fans travelling should note that admission at Cammell Laird is &163;5 adults and &163;3 concessions. Should a replay be required, this will be staged at the Impact Arena next Tuesday (October 19th, 7.45pm).

For the love of the game...
