NORTH: Ashton United FC Appoint New Manager

Ashton United have announced the appointment of Paul Futcher as their new Manager,

Paul, an ex professional footballer of some twenty years with teams such as Manchester City and Oldham Athletic, has been out of non-league football for the last two years.

Although he's not been actively been involved on the non-league scene Paul has still been involved with football and is currently working part time as a Coach Educator for the FA and for Sheffield Hallamshire County FA. He is also involved with Leeds United working on their Community projects.

Now living in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, Paul spent five years as a manager in non-league football and was instrumental in taking Southport FC to the FA Trophy Final at Wembley in 1998. He has previously worked at both Gresley, where he gained promotion, and Stalybridge Celtic. Paul will be bringing Gerry Luzcka as his Assistant manager.

Paul's appointment comes following the recent poor results in the short time that Andy Johnston has been in charge, and following heavy defeats at Droylsden and Harrogate in the last week the board of Directors decided to move quickly to try and preserve their Nationwide North status.
