CONFERENCE: McEwan takes over from Busby at York

York City's caretaker manager Viv Busby has left the club, according to BBC Radio York.

Busby, who took charge of the Minstermen following the sacking of player-manager Chris Brass in November, leaves by mutual consent, with former Derby and Rotherham Billy McEwan taking the reins at the recently renamed KitKat Crescent.

The departing boss spent five years at York as a player and coach from 1982 to 1987, and the club's managing director Jason McGill thanked him for his efforts in what has been an extremely difficult first season in the Nationwide Conference.

Results had picked up recently, following encouraging signs off the field such as the sponsorship of the stadium, with successive victories over Morecambe and Leigh RMI, but a 2-0 home defeat to Aldershot on Sunday seems to have effected the change in management, with the Minstermen just seven points clear of the relegation zone.

For the love of the game...
