CONFERENCE: DELIA'S 'FUEL TIME' PLAN
Scarborough FC Training Session
In July this year, Delia launched her new 'Fuel Time' plan: a high carb, low-fat diet designed specifically to help Norwich City FC take on the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premiership.
The 'Fuel Time' plan was developed with top nutritionist Dr. Sarah Schenker and local potato experts and Scarborough FC sponsors McCain.
Now, with Scarborough vs Lancaster this Saturday, 30th October - the opening game of their 2004 FA Cup campaign - The Seadogs are hoping to build on their 2003 success... Step forward Delia!
The much-loved TV chef and Norwich City director, who is as passionate about football as she is about food, is talking to the Scarborough players and staff today to explain the reasons behind her 'Fuel Time' plan: why Norwich have adopted it, why it was necessary to have a nutritionist on board, and the role McCain have played in helping the idea come to life.
National, regional and broadcast press are in attendance for the special day at the McCain Stadium, where Dr. Sarah Schenker explains the role of potatoes and carbs in a footballer's diet, the principles of a low-fat, high-carb eating plan, the basic science of managing energy and why eating the right things can make the difference between success and failure on a matchday. Dr. Schenker will also provide a list of mealtime do's and don'ts, advising what to eat and when on a Saturday.
Norwich City's Sports Scientist Neal Reynolds and Head Physio Dave Carolan will go through the guiding principles on how diet and exercise can be combined to get the best possible results in training and on the pitch.
Question and answer sessions and interviews are also taking place during the day, with a healthy and nutritious 'Fuel Time' meal provided for all in attendance.
The Football Conference are lending their support to the initiative, with Commercial Director Joanna Adams making the trip to Scarborough to learn more about the 'Fuel Time' plan and see how it can benefit Nationwide Conference clubs as they prepare to take on teams in the Football League in the first round proper of the FA Cup next month.
