CONFERENCE: WEEKEND ROUND-UP
Barnet 3 - 0 Accrington Stanley
The Nationwide Conference leaders bounced back from last week's disappointing FA Cup exit with another comfortable victory over one of the chasing promotion hopefuls.
Simon King put the home side ahead after 21 minutes and Richard Graham doubled their advantage just before the hour. Stanley's fate was sealed in the 88th minute when Mike Flynn headed into his own net, as the Bees maintained their four point lead.
Carlisle United 1 - 0 Dagenham & Redbridge
Karl Hawley ensured the Cumbrians remained hot on Barnet's heels with his late winner against The Daggers, who were reduced to ten men for the final ten minutes of the match after Jake Leberl's dismissal.
Hawley struck his tenth goal of the season, from Brendan McGill's cross, in the 88th minute, to keep Carlisle in second place in the table and maintain their push for promotion and an immediate return to the Football League.
Halifax Town 2 - 0 Aldershot
The Shaymen carried their FA Cup form into the Conference as they saw off The Shots with a two-goal victory that helped them climb to third in the table.
Ryan Sugden put the home side ahead in the fifth minute and Lewis Killeen made it 2-0 in the second half, slotting home from Sugden's cross.
Canvey Island 0 - 4 Hereford United
After six games without a victory in all competitions, The Bulls finally returned to winning ways in emphatic style at Canvey Island.
Adam Stansfield scored twice and set up another, for Danny Williams, after Lee Mills had opened the scoring in the 13th minute for Hereford.
Scarborough 3 - 3 Stevenage Borough
Scarborough got off to a flier against Stevenage on Saturday but the visitors staged a remarkable comeback to rescue a point at the McCain Stadium.
The Seadogs were three goals to the good within nine minutes as Chris Senior struck either side of Kevin Nicholson's goal, giving the home side what appeared to be an unassailable lead.
However, the visitors pulled one back just after the half-hour - Anthony Elding grabbing his eighth goal of the season - and Robert Quinn made it 3-2 nine minutes after the break. Elding then hit the equalizer on 68 minutes to earn Boro a hard-earned point.
Morecambe 1 - 2 Crawley Town
Crawley moved level on points with Scarborough after this away victory over Morecambe.
Last season's Southern League champions further underlined their adaptation into an accomplished Conference side as Danny Davidson and Danny Marney scored the goals - either side of Wayne Curtis's equalizer - that keep them in the hunt for a play-off place.
Exeter City 5 - 1 Leigh RMI
In-form Exeter made it five games unbeaten with a comprehensive win over Conference strugglers Leigh.
The visitors almost took a shock lead when Karl Rose's effort hit the bar, but The Grecians scored first through Steve Flack and led 1-0 at half time.
Sean Devine made it 2-0 on 54 minutes but Chris Simm halved the deficit with quarter of an hour to go, inspiring hope of a comeback. However, Gary Sawyer nodded in Exeter's third on 80 minutes, Andrew Taylor hit their fourth four minutes later, and Jake Edwards completed the rout in the final minute.
Afterwards, Grecians boss Alex Inglethorpe admitted: "We didn't necessarily play as well as we can, but you can't knock a victory. Sometimes the best form of defending is to attack - different games demand different tactics - and I think we were right to do that. We took longer to get into the game than we'd like, but now it's a case of doing that more often than not."
Tamworth 2 - 1 Gravesend & Northfleet
Tamworth's player-manager Mark Cooper was pleased sit and watch his side record a victory over Gravesend while serving a one-match playing suspension.
Marcus Ebdon put the home side ahead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time after Zeljko Popovic's foul on Bob Taylor, who later doubled their lead with a fine drive.
Jay Saunders curled in a 20-yarder for the visitors late on, but Tamworth held on to claim an important win, to Cooper's delight: "We never let them get behind us, and we contained a very good side," he said. ""Our defence worked hard, and were very strong today."
Woking 1 - 0 York
Viv Busby's first game in caretaker charge of the Minstermen was not one he will care to remember as York fell to another defeat.
Scott Canham's 72nd-minute strike proved decisive in a game that saw Woking keeper Adriano Basso make several fine saves to earn The Cards three valuable points, as York slipped closer to the relegation zone.
Forest Green Rovers 3 - 2 Burton Albion
Scott Rogers hit the last-minute winner that capped an amazing comeback by Rovers after they had fallen two goals behind at home to Burton.
Albion debutant Jon Shaw gave Nigel Clough's team a first-half lead, which was doubled early in the second half by Craig Dudley. But with only 11 minutes remaining, Matt Gadsby's started the fightback with a 30-yard strike.
Charlie Griffin drew Alan Lewer's side level setting up an exciting finish to the match, which the home side won thanks to Rogers.
Farnborough Town 0 - 2 Northwich Victoria
The Vics bounced back from their thumping 5-0 defeat by Accrington Stanley last week to record their fourth win in five games as they claimed their second away success of the season, at Farnborough.
Jamie Hughes scored Northwich's first, just before half time, but was sent off before the break for using foul and abusive language, having already been booked for a foul on Gary Holloway.
But the numerical disadvantage did not deter the visitors, who doubled their lead through a 35-yard Steve Garvey free-kick and held on to further enhance their ever-improving hopes of staving off relegation despite a 10-point penalty imposed as a result of the club going into administration earlier this season.
