NORTH: Tuesday night round-up

Southport take top spot in the North

A 3-1 win over Runcorn FC Halton took Southport to the top of the table on Tuesday night, as Nuneaton Borough came from behind to beat former leaders Hinckley United.

Hinckley led 1-0 at half time and were 2-1 up with just minutes to go but two late strikes from the visitors saw Borough snatch all three points to move level on points with their hosts, who have now slipped to third.

That allowed Alfreton Town to move up into second place as they returned to winning ways with a 1-0 success at Moor Green, thanks to a 76th-minute winner from man of the match Ben Chapman.

There were plenty of goals at Watnall Road in what turned out to be Hucknall manager Ernie Moss's last game in charge, as the home side were beaten 5-2 by Gainsborough. Dean Barrick has taken over the manager's position, with Roy Hunter stepping in as his number two after the dismissals of Moss and his assistant Sean O'Neill, with the club now second-bottom of the table.

Chris Cleary and Dene Cropper were the stars for Worksop as The Tigers came from behind to beat Bradford Park Avenue 2-1 at Babbage Way, with goalkeeper Kris Rogers keeping the visitors out in the second half to help secure the points.

Meanwhile, mid-table teams Barrow and Ashton, and Stafford Rangers and Redditch played out 1-1 draws.

For the love of the game...
