NORTH: WEEKEND ROUND-UP
Hinckley take top spot
Hinckley United took advantage of Alfreton Town's defeat at Harrogate to go top of the Nationwide North as they recorded a 3-1 home win over Gainsborough Trinity.
Jamie Lenton set a new appearance record as he turned out for the 214th time for The Knitters, while his team-mates Nathan Lamey, Rich Lavery and Paul Barnes scored the goals that took the Leicestershire side to the Nationwide North summit.
Alfreton meanwhile were beaten 2-1 at Harrogate, who moved up to fourth place and within a point of David Lloyd's side.
Southport keep up the pressure
A 2-1 win over Altrincham saw Southport stay in touch with Hinckley and leapfrog Alfreton as Terry Fearns scored both goals for The Sandgrounders at a windswept and rain-soaked Haig Avenue.
Super Sylla helps hit Barrow for six
Redditch United recorded the result of the day in the Nationwide North as they beat Barrow 6-1 away from home. Leading 2-1 at half-time, the visitors romped to a comprehensive victory as Norman Sylla struck his second hat-trick in as many weeks after Barrow were reduced to ten men.
Three's a crowd...
Kettering, Worcester and Droylsden all struck three times on Saturday to earn themselves important victories. Darren Lynch scored twice in a 3-0 win for The Poppies at Worksop to keep them just three points behind new leaders Hinckley, while a strong performance by Worcester saw them storm past Lancaster in a 3-1 victory at St. Georges Lane. Droylsden meanwhile saw off Runcorn as they hit three without reply to move into the top half of the table.
Bottom teams make a point
Despite being bottom of the table, Vauxhall Motors were able to hold high-flying Nuneaton Borough to a 1-1 draw, while second-bottom Stalybridge Celtic also earned a point after sharing four goals with Moor Green, and Hucknall Town played out a goalless draw with Bradford (Park Avenue). Stafford Rangers and Ashton United also shared the spoils after the home side's second-half equaliser.
