NATIONWIDE NORTH WEEKEND ROUND-UP

Hinckley United were able to close the gap on leaders Alfreton Town at the top of the Nationwide North at the weekend after a 3-2 win at Lancaster on Saturday, as Jamie Lenton celebrated equalling the appearance record (213) with the first goal and Paul Barnes hit the other two.

Alfreton meanwhile were held to a goalless draw at home to Worksop, after manager David Lloyd had received his Nationwide North Manager of the Month award from Football Conference Commercial Director Joanna Adams. They are still a point ahead of Hinckley at the top of the table.

Southport drew level with Nuneaton after ending Borough's unbeaten run with a 1-0 win at Manor Park on Saturday, courtesy of a 48th-minute Terry Fearns goal. That also enabled The Sandgrounders to leapfrog Kettering, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Moor Green.

Altrincham returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Harrogate at Moss Lane, while Worcester managed a 2-2 draw at Runcorn to keep themselves in the top six.

Redditch United enjoyed a convincing 4-1 win over Vauxhall Motors, with new signing Norman Sylla grabbing all the goals for the Dr. Martens Western Division Champions as they recorded their first home success of the season.

Bradford (Park Avenue) also celebrated their first victory on home soil - in fact there first of the Nationwide North campaign - as they came from behind to beat Stafford Rangers 3-1.

Elsewhere, Gainsborough and Droylsden drew 1-1, Ashton and Hucknall played out a goalless draw, and Barrow won 2-1 at Stalybridge.

For the love of the game...
