NATIONWIDE CONFERENCE WEEKEND ROUND-UP

The first live broadcast of a Nationwide Conference game on Sky Sports this season came from Brunton Park on Saturday as Carlisle United took on Burton Albion.

Unfortunately for the many watching spectators at the ground and elsewhere, both sides were somewhat camera-shy and couldn't muster a single goal, though The Cumbrians will feel they should have converted at least one of their numerous chances.

Carlisle manager Paul Simpson, who saw his side put seven past Farnborough the previous Saturday, admitted afterwards: "It was frustrating, and I think it was that way for everyone - the players, the fans and staff. We didn't take our chances early on in the game and you could see our players getting more frustrated, which gave Burton more and more confidence. Our players started to get nervous and everybody got irate with it all."

It was rather a different story at St James' Park however, where the footballconference.tv cameras recorded highlights of a thrilling five-goal encounter between Exeter City and Crawley Town.

Nationwide Conference newcomers Crawley were 2-1 up at half time but The Grecians managed to turn things round and substitute Marcus Martin hit the winner in the 73rd minute.

Halifax also enjoyed a 3-2 victory over one of the pre-season title favourites Hereford. The Shaymen raced into a three-goal first-half lead, largely against the run of play, and managed to hold on despite a Danny Ingram own goal in stoppage time.

York City were also surprise away winners as they saw off one of the early-season form sides Dagenham & Redbridge, winning 3-0 at the Glyn Hopkin Stadium thanks to a goal from former Grimsby player-boss Paul Groves and a late Darren Dunning double.

There were no shocks at Underhill where leaders Barnet continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 5-1 defeat of Morecambe. The Bees were aided by Kieron Walmsley's early dismissal and a second-half blitz ensured The Bees remained at the top of the table, with hot-shot Giuliano Grazioli adding two more two his season's tally.

Gravesend & Northfleet also extended their unbeaten run with a 2-1 triumph over Stevenage, with super sub Moussa Sidibe hitting both goals late on for the Fleet as they came from behind to move up to third in the table.

Aldershot maintained their position just behind Barnet with a 2-1 win over Northwich, thanks to two goals from former Leyton Orient striker Roscoe D'Sane. However, Accrington Stanley could only manage a point despite dominating their home game against Woking, which ended goalless, leaving Stanley in fourth place.

Forest Green Rovers are still searching for their first point of the campaign after going down 2-0 at Leigh RMI, who were delighted to record their first victory of the season.

Elsewhere, Scarborough and Canvey Island drew 1-1 while Farnborough enjoyed their first away win - 2-0 at Tamworth.

For the love of the game...
