NORTH: ALFRETON ARE TOP DOGS IN THE NORTH

Alfreton Town are out on their own at the top of the Nationwide North table following their 3-1 away win over Redditch United at the weekend.

The Derbyshire side are now the only team with a 100% record in the division as early pace-setters Altrincham, Nuneaton and Southport were all held to draws on Saturday.

Peter Duffield's penalty a minute before half time got the ball rolling for Alfreton, while Ian Robinson bagged the second and Ben Chapman grabbed a last-minute third in front of a crowd of 393.

Spectators at Alfreton's game against Hinckley United at the Impact Arena on Tuesday night will be illuminated by the club's brand new 75,000 floodlight system, which will be used for the first time.

Manager David Lloyd will also have Chris Bettney available after the winger served his three-match suspension, and he is added to a squad looking to build on their winning start to the season.

Elsewhere in the Nationwide North this weekend, Gainsborough Trinity picked up their first points of the season with a 4-2 win over Lancaster, while Bradford (Park Avenue), Barrow and Vauxhall Motors also got off the mark with home draws against Nuneaton, Worcester and Droylsden respectively.

Ashton United have yet to win a point, or even score a goal for that matter, as they were beaten 2-0 by Kettering. The division's bottom club will be hoping to take something from a difficult trip to Southport on Tuesday night to avoid extending their unwanted 100% losing record.

For the love of the game...
