NORTH AND SOUTH: WEDNESDAY NIGHT ROUND-UP
NATIONWIDE NORTH
Newport County claimed their first victory of the new Nationwide South season on Wednesday night as they inflicted the second defeat of the campaign on Weymouth.
The home side scored twice in the second half, in what was a tight game at the Newport Stadium, to leave Steve Claridge's side still searching for their first points in the new division.
County broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with a Jason Bowen penalty, and sealed their victory in the final minute of the match as Weymouth keeper Jason Matthews' attempted clearance rebounded off Carl Wilson-Denis into the net.
NATIONWIDE SOUTH
Having lost to a stoppage-time goal on Saturday, Bradford (Park Avenue) suffered a similar fate on Wednesday night against Runcorn FC Halton.
The visitors claimed their first victory of the Nationwide South campaign through Mick Garrity's 87th minute goal, leaving Bradford with nothing to show for their efforts in the first week of the new season.
The Yorkshire side will be hoping to open their account on Saturday in another home game, against Nuneaton Borough, while Runcorn face a trip to Hucknall Town.
