SOUTH: TUESDAY NIGHT ROUND-UP
LEWES WIN AGAIN TO KEEP IN TOUCH AT THE TOP
Four teams have maintained 100% records in the first week of the Nationwide South 2004/05 season, as Basingstoke, Lewes, Cambridge City and Havant & Waterlooville all followed up Saturday success with victories on Tuesday night.
Lewes enjoyed an impressive 3-1 win at Bognor Regis while Basingstoke and Cambridge both ensured their fans were happy with victories in their first home games of the new campaign, as they beat Hayes and Bishops Stortford respectively.
The other early pace-setters Havant certainly look as though they have the ability to make a strong challenge this season, as they came from behind to win 2-1 at Eastbourne.
Just behind the leading pack, Grays Athletic picked up their first victory as they piled the misery onto Redbridge, beating them 3-1 and condemning The Motormen to the bottom of the early Nationwide South table.
Thurrock and Weston-super-Mare also added midweek victories to their opening day draws, as they recorded away wins at Dorchester and Hornchurch, while Maidenhead - winners on Saturday - were forced to settle for a point as they entertained Sutton United.
But it was Welling United who recorded the most convincing result of the evening as opened their Nationwide North account with a convincing 5-2 win at St Albans, having led 1-0 at half time.
Tonight, Weymouth and Newport County will both be looking to get off the mark after opening-day defeats, in their meeting at the Newport Stadium.
